Halloween & Spooky Season Wedding Photographer in Kansas City

Stag & Bird is a Kansas City wedding and elopement photography studio that specializes in dark, editorial, Halloween-season weddings for couples who want their day to look like a Michele Lamy and Rick Owens shoot, not a costume party. We're based in the West Bottoms with a home location in Belton, Missouri, and Halloween books out faster than any other season we shoot. Normal engagement season runs Thanksgiving through Valentine's. Ours starts the second someone feels that pull toward October instead of June.
If you're searching for a wedding photographer who shoots dark, moody, Halloween-themed, gothic, or alternative weddings in Kansas City, this is who we are and how to work with us.
Who is Stag & Bird?
Stag & Bird is a full-service photography collective led by Courtney Specht, a Kansas City photographer with over 25 years of experience and a personal brand built on being unapologetically, publicly different. The studio shoots weddings, elopements, boudoir, family, senior, and branding sessions, and has won Best of KC from the Kansas City Pitch 12 times, including Best Wedding Photographer, Best Engagement Photographer, and Best Photography Company. The studio is located at 1317 W. 13th Terrace, Suite 3B, in Kansas City's West Bottoms, with a home base in Belton, MO.
Do you photograph Halloween weddings?
Yes, and it's not a side offering we dust off every October. Halloween and the weeks around it are our busiest, most requested, most fully booked stretch of the year. We shoot Halloween weddings, spooky-season elopements, and dark-aesthetic engagement sessions built around candlelight, shadow, texture, and sculptural styling rather than costumes.
What does a Stag & Bird Halloween wedding actually look like?
Think Michele Lamy and Rick Owens, not the Halloween aisle at Walmart. Black velvet, candlelight, architectural florals, abandoned or atmospheric venues, tailoring that actually fits the person wearing it. We direct and pose our couples on purpose to get that candid-looking result, because we know you don't know how to get there on your own, and we don't expect you to. That's the job.
When should I book a Halloween-season wedding photographer?
As early as the idea crosses your mind, ideally before you're even engaged. Good October dates, full moon dates, and specific weekends go first, every year, without exception. You don't have to be ready to book to start talking to us. We'd rather spend a year getting to know you than meet you for the first time three weeks before your wedding.
How far in advance should I actually book?
Full weddings: 12 to 18 months out. This is the lead time that gets you your actual first-choice date, not whatever's left.
Elopements: 3 to 6 months out. Smaller and more flexible, but the good dates still move.
Weekday dates: 3 months is usually enough, since most couples aren't fighting over a Tuesday. If you're flexible on day of the week, you buy yourself real breathing room.
Key fall wedding dates to know
Halloween 2027 (October 31) falls on a Sunday, meaning the Halloween weekend itself runs Friday, October 29 through Sunday, October 31. The weekend before is October 22–23. The weekend after is November 5–6.
Halloween 2028 (October 31) falls on a Tuesday. The weekend before is October 27–28. The weekend after is November 3–4.
Fall 2027 full moons: September 15 (Wednesday), October 15 (Friday), November 14 (Sunday). Two of the three fall on a weekend.
How much does a Halloween or fall wedding cost with Stag & Bird?
Elopements (under 15 guests) start at $1,500.
Micro weddings (12–30 guests) and traditional wedding-day coverage start at $4,500.
Most couples invest between $6,000 and $7,500 for full wedding-day coverage.
Engagement sessions start at $1150 and are complimentary on the house with most wedding bookings.
We rarely book traditional wedding-day coverage under six hours.
What's the difference between "spooky kitsch" and what Stag & Bird does?
Kitschy Halloween wedding photography is costumes, plastic props, and a Walmart seasonal aisle's worth of novelty. Ours is sculptural and editorial: tailoring, texture, shadow, and styling pulled from high-fashion dark aesthetics instead of holiday decor. If what you're picturing looks closer to a fashion editorial than a trick-or-treat party, that's the version we build.
Do you shoot elopements as well as full weddings?
Yes. Elopements under 15 guests start at $1,500 and are one of our most common Halloween-season bookings. A lot of couples choose a smaller, more intentional day specifically so they can lean all the way into the aesthetic without managing a guest list of eighty people and their opinions.
How do I start the conversation?
Reach out through our inquiry form at stagandbirdphotography.com/contact, or call or text 816 - 674 - 9460. You don't need a date, a ring, or a finished plan of your vision. Window shop if that's where you are, just tell us that's what you're doing. If spooky season is even a passing thought, that's reason enough to start talking.
