How Much Do Senior Pictures Cost in Kansas City? (Class of 2027)

Senior pictures in Kansas City - with a solid, reputable photographer - run anywhere from a couple hundred bucks to several thousand dollars, depending on how much time, styling, and finished artwork you walk away with. At Stag & Bird, cap and gown micro sessions are $275, the Senior Session Limited starts at $650, most families land on our Senior Full Digital at $1,100, and our flagship Curated Senior Portrait Experience is $2,950.
A lot of photographers make you fill out a form and wait three days to get a number. Ridiculous. You've got a budget to plan. So there it is in the paragraph on top real plain like.
Why one photographer quotes $200 and the next quotes $3,000
Because they aren't selling the same thing, even when the Instagram grid looks similar. (It usually doesn't, once you look past the first nine posts.)
What changes the price of senior pictures in KC:
Time. A 20-minute mini and a half-day session with outfit changes and two locations are different animals.
Who's behind the camera. Someone who can get a 17-year-old who hates photos to drop the fake school-picture smile is worth more than someone who owns a nice lens.
Styling. Is hair, makeup, or wardrobe help part of it, or are you on your own?
What you take home. Ten edited images, a full gallery, or prints and albums you can hand to Grandma.
Editing. Real retouching takes hours. A preset slapped on 400 photos takes minutes, and it shows.
Experience running the day. Knowing where the light is at alley way next to Union Station at 6pm in October comes from being there a hundred times - and from have the experience to know what to research.
Ask what's included before you sign anything. Seriously.

Cheaper than the pizza budget for the grad party. Fifteen minutes at one spot in Belton, a traditional cap and gown look, hand-edited digitals, and printed photos for Mom and Grandma. Come with a smile and you're done before the parking meter would've run out.
Senior Session Limited: from $650
The lowest entry point for a full senior session. Around an hour, up to two locations, a studio option, and styling help before the shoot. Afterward you sit down with us in person to see your images and choose the artwork you actually want on your walls. Artwork is purchased separately, so you only pay for what you'll hang up.

This is where most of our families land. Two-plus hours, multiple locations, a studio option, and styling help. You get every hand-edited image from the session with a print release. No sales appointment. Print wherever you want.
The Curated Senior Portrait Experience: $2,950
Our flagship. We plan the whole day around your kid. The yearbook doesn't get a vote. It's a full production. Wardrobe styling, professional hair and makeup, a custom moodboard and set, a media team on location, and behind-the-scenes video. You walk away with the art already made, including a statement print and an heirloom album. The only thing your senior has to do is show up.
Add-ons
Professional hair and makeup ($295), wardrobe styling with our stylist, and senior companion videos can be added to any session. We'll walk you through the details when you reach out.

Where to spend it. Where to save it.
If the budget is tight (and whose isn't, senior year is basically a subscription service you never signed up for), this is where the money shows up in the photos.
Worth paying for:
A photographer who directs. Your kid will not magically know what to do with their hands. Nobody does.
Enough time for at least one outfit change without sprinting between spots.
Images edited well enough to print big. That 8x10 on the mantle is going to be there for twenty years.
Hair and makeup, if your senior is even a little nervous. Nervous kids stand taller with their face done.
Fine to skip:
Five locations in one session. You'll spend half the session in the car. Bonus skip: going to the same locations everyone else and their mom has done senior portraits at.
The outfit they bought specifically for pictures and have never worn. Bring the jacket they usually wear.
Recreating every senior photo your cousin pinned.
Book early. Fall weekends in KC fill up and October evenings go first. If you want wardrobe styling, give us at least six weeks.
Why Kansas City families book Stag & Bird for senior pictures
We're a team of photographers based in Kansas City's West Bottoms, with a second location in Belton. My team has been voted Best of KC by The Pitch 12 times, including Best Photography Company, and our work has been published internationally. I've been behind the camera for over 25 years.
We've photographed every flavor of teenager. The athlete, the theater kid, the one in all black who's only here because Mom said so (my personal favorite). We know how to get them to loosen up.
